Topic 2: Why War Began
We were included in the war because we were forced to go. There was an ultimatum (treaty) between Germany and the British Empire to keep Belgium neutral. The ultimatum finally expired on August the 4th of 1914, so Germany attacked Belgium. This angered Britain, so the British Empire declared war against Germany. It ended up being the British Empire, Serbia, Russia and France versus Germany and Astro-Hungarian Empires. When British wanted to fight, we fought too. We are a part of the British Common Wealth and fought for recognition. The battle of Somme began, and 500,000 Germans died, 200,000 of the French died, and 420,000 British people died. There were over 1 million dead bodies but we won 10 km of land because of the battle of Somme. This was only one of the dozens of the activities of World War One and so far it wasn’t looking good.
